The Porsche Mission X concept is a zero

May 24, 2023

As part of its 75th anniversary, Porsche has introduced a wild battery-powered hypercar concept called the Mission X. Unveiled on the eve of the 100th anniversary of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, Mission X features styling that appears to be inspired by Porsche cars racing in the Le Mans Hypercar category. With a potential production model in the offing, Mission X has been designed with the aim of shattering records. Porsche claims that if the model reaches production, it will gunning for the production car lap record around the iconic Nürburgring. Since Mission X is still a concept, there aren't many technical details about the hardcore hypercar.Porsche claims the zero-emission hypercar will offer a mind-blowing power-to-weight ratio of at least one horsepower per 2.2 pounds of weight, making it more potent than the Koenigsegg Regera. In fact, it will be the most powerful road-going Porsche ever. In addition to that, the German automaker said that its aero-package will produce downforce levels "well in excess" of the 911 GT3 RS, which makes 1,895 pounds of it at 177 mph. We really don't doubt that looking at the massive diffuser jutting out of the rear bumper. As far as the track-focused hypercar's electric powertrain is concerned, Porsche didn't reveal the horsepower figure or the size of the battery pack. However, it did say that Mission X gets a 900-volt system architecture, giving it super-quick charging times. Furthermore, the model will have a multi-speed gearbox like the Taycan.

The Le Mans-inspired styling of Mission X gets some radical styling elements. The track-focused hypercar has a low-slung stance and is relatively compact as compared to modern supercars. While it stands just 47.2 inches above the ground, it measures approximately 177 inches from nose to tail and 78.7 inches wide. Porsche says the front's styling, including the headlight design, is a modernized nod to the 906 and 908 racing prototypes. The doors open upwards and forward like the iconic Porsche 917 race car.

The concept gets carbon fiber reinforced plastic exoskeleton and a glass bubble covering the passenger compartment. On the inside, Mission X features contrasting-color seats for driver and passenger along with six-point harnesses. The cockpit is equipped with a squared-off steering wheel with plenty of switches and paddle shifters. There's also an analog stopwatch crafted by Porsche Design that sits in the middle of the dashboard. Let's hope Porsche ends up building a production version of the Mission X as it appears to have all the ingredients to be a segment-defining automobile.
